Dr. Carlos Nobre

Carlos Nobre is an Earth System scientist from Brazil, currently associated with Institute for Advanced Studies, USP. He obtained a PhD in Meteorology at MIT in 1983. Nobre’s work mostly focus on the Amazon and its impacts on the Earth system. He chaired the Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA). He has been author of several IPCC reports, including the 2007 report that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was director of Center of Weather Prediction and Climate Studies (CPTEC-INPE), and the creator of Center for Earth System Science (CCST-INPE) and of the National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters (CEMADEN). He was National Secretary for R&D Policies at Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation and President of Brazil’s Agency for Post-Graduate Education (CAPES). He is co-chair of the Science Panel for the Amazon and the director of the Amazonia 4.0 project to promote a standing forest bioeconomy for the Amazon and the creation of the Amazonia Institute of Technology-AmIT. He was International Secretary of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). He is a foreign member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society, and full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Sciences. He was awarded several prizes including the Volvo Environmental Prize and the AAAS Science Diplomacy Award.

Dr. Sven Brummerloh

Sven Brummerloh is a serial entrepreneur and angel investor from Germany, passionate about building and scaling mostly sustainability-driven business models. He obtained a PhD in public economy from LMU Munich for his work on incentive mechanisms in university-industry technology transfer. Former roles include M&A Consultancy for Deutsche Telekom Group, Head of Business Development at InteractiveMedia CCSP and Managing Director at Germany’s first private smart metering service Provider Discovergy. As an Entrepreneur, Seed Investor and Founding Advisor, Sven co-founded foodspring (acquired by Mars in 2019), Locoia (acquired by Aareon in 2022), Forest Garden Labs, truemorrow and ProteinDistillery (winner of Germany’s National Sustainability Award 2023). Besides that, Sven’s Angel Investments are strongly impact-driven and often focus on technology intensive or value creation strategies or new products providing consumers with options to fulfill their needs in a way that doesn’t harm the planet. Besides supporting BioTara as Board Member, Sven is currently serving as Advisory Board Member of Wholey Organics, ProteinDistillery and aware_ - the sustainability platform and the non-profit initiatives Confluentes e.V. and students help e.V. at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management (where he graduated himself 2008).
